UI/UX arduino on touchscreen

Goodmorning,

I would need to manage my arduino via a graphical interface, whit sensors status, manager menu, on a color touchscreen display.
I have noticed that many 3D printers have one.
Are they external displays with dedicated chips to be programmed separately or are they managed directly by the microcontroller?
