Ultrasonic Vs. Infrared Vs. Other

Good Day! I have a project in which one of its function is to measure your stature height. There would be a flat platform above the user's head in order that the waves emitted by the sensors would bounce in an even surface. What would be the best sensor for this project? (sensor will be placed above the platform). Ultrasonic, Infrared or (any other suggestions?) ? thank you.

P.S. Newbie here.

It depends on the accuracy required and how automated you want the measurement. I would say the best way would be a leaver that moves down when you twist a knob. Then monitor that knob with a rotary encoder to get the reading. Ultrasonics are not that accurate and IR has trouble getting a reflection off heads that are not bald.

moderator: Cross post in sensors removed.

maybe the platform would help? I only have ultrasonic and IR with me. And about that rotary encoder you've mentioned , I honestly don't have any ideas about that.

And what about google does he have any ideas about that?
