Unable to detect Atmega2560 for bootloading

Hello,
I have got Atmega2560-AU, I was trying to upload bootloaders into it using Nick Gammons method on the very first time chip detected and showed me output something like this

Entered programming mode OK.

Type 'G' to program the chip with the bootloader ...

It also showed in in the end, Type 'Q' for Quit and 'V' for Verify.

I pressed 'G' as i wanted to upload the booatloaders, then it showed me this

I re-opened the Serial Monitor and now it is showing me only this

Attempting to enter ICSP programming mode ......................................................

I thought the chip is fried, so i went down and bought 2 more chips! But same thing happened to them also.

I am using 16Mhz Crystal with all the correct connections.

NOTE : The quoted content is not exactly same what i got in the serial monitor, I copied them from the Nick website, I don't have the real Logs.

Please help me!

My guess is that the crystal is connected improperly, based on the observation that it apparently successfully writes the flash, writes the fuses, and then the chip is comatose - but this is a guess. It looks like that sketch doesn't output even the minimal level of debugging output that you get when using avrdude for that.

Got an ISP programmer you can hook up to it and confirm that it's reading out the signature as 0x000000?

Check crystal connections with an ohm meter - check for short to eachother, short to ground, short to Vcc, and doublecheck that you have the right caps too (20pf for most crystals, but check the specs for the crystal to be sure)
