hi I'm facing weird problem. I have win7 laptop for my upload purposes, recently got new win10 one.
every chip/ board is uploading just fine on win7, can't get it sorted on win10. I read plenty of info on internet but can't see similar problem to mine.
On win10 I can upload to esp32, esp8266 and arduino micro, but for some reason uno and mega just don't work. arduino ide shows uploading but no tx and rx leds are flashing.
Funny thing is almost all of my boards are ch340g so why ESP is working and uno and mega doesn't?
is there any tweak, driver or something I can use on win10?
spent all my life with electronics and computers but with win10 I feel stupid. really hate this system
Do you get the new hardware sound when you plug those boards in that don't appear to work ?
If you do what does device manager show as the COM port (In win 10 you may have to enable SHOW HIDDEN DEVICES)
That your CH340 boards work is of course a good sign but some clones also use other driver chips for the com port such as the CP2102 and it may also be worth installing the driver for those.
Some clones also still use the FT232 driver which you may also need to install as Arduino moved away from them some time ago.
On some newer computers there can also be a USB 3.x issue where boards don't accept an upload using those USB ports so try stick to USB 2.0 ports wherever possible.
If you only have USB 3.x ports then quite often a powered USB 2.0 hub can also often fix the USB 3.x problem.
All the above is also covered in the sticky posts in the top of each forum too.
I only moved to win 10 fully this year and it took me about a week to dial it all in to my liking for security etc.
Yes it is not the most useful OS that MS has offered and it certainly phones home waaaay too much for my liking.
It is also a hungry beast for CPU and memory but once dialed in it is pretty well tamed.
yeah hardware connection sound is on. Com port ok.
I don't have any CP2102 or FT232 boards. all ch340g.
don't think its usb3.x problem because as I said ALL esp8266 and ALL esp32 boards are programming ok, only nano, uno and mega won't upload. those boards are 100% working cos win7 uploading to them all straight away.
is it any separate driver for win10 or something cos im ready to throw it through the window. s**t system
I must ask if you took the time to go through the sticky posts.
Is the new laptop your very own ?
Not on loan from a school or business !
In win 10 you may also need to turn OFF the driver signing option as that has caught some people out depending on how win10 was set up.
Win 7 hardly ever suffered from that issue.
Also be aware that using such as ONEDRIVE or other online cloud based storage can also cause issues so ensure you have installed the regular IDE to a regular drive.
Make sure you are not using the APP version also as we still see reports of that also failing on some win 10 installations.
All these suggestions are covered in some of the sticky posts.
