Understanding programmers.txt and boards.txt. an reference would be cool

'Aloha Friends!

I'm trying to upload code from the arduino IDE to a remote avrdude located on an other machine. It's linux here.

I have a script that can do it all, but seems to miss some basic understanding of the files programmers.txt and boards.txt, does an reference exists? Is it possible to call something else but avrdude from the Arduino IDE?

Currently I have simply moved avrdude away and put a wrapper script in it's place. It works but is quite ugly!

If you know the avrdude switch lines, it isn't tough to follow.

This older article might help: Redirecting

why bother with the ide, just use avrdude by itself, you are going to find much more material on avrdude than two text files.
