Underwater sensor

Does anybody have experience using underwater sensor?
I am searching for long range (50m) sensor, so my submarine can detect a ship coming to it and avoid it.

Which Arduino do you have?

Traditionally a directional microphone array or sonar. Both would be effective or a combination of the two.

Ping sensor as link below.....expensive though.

How would your submarine know which direction is an avoidance?

The directional microphone array works by detecting the different levels of sound coming from different directions and calculating direction of origin based on this. Of course more than 1 target can create complications.

Echo transducers can normally identify individual objects but are not good when it comes to the interface between water and air.
