Unexpected measured resistance value in variable resistor

Hello,

I have bought a batch of Bourns 1k variable resistors. The manufacturing tolerance is supposed to be 25% but when measuring the effective maximum resistance, I get figures as low as 640 ohms, so it seems to be closer to a 50% tolerance. Within the 10 units batch I have, almost all resistors do not reach 1kohm, their maximum is closer to 750 ohms.

Is it a usual situation for variable resistors ?

Hi, sounds like a bad batch, I'd expect 1K to be down to 0.9K, which is what I've got here with some odds and sods in my parts box.
Measure a 1K fixed resistor to check your DMM, but I agree they are low.

Tom...

It sounds like they are from the reject bin. Did you get them from eBay?

No I got them from a retailer...

Sounds like he got them from the reject bin then.

That or you need to change the battery in your multimeter...
