Uno R4 problem - Exit Status 1

I cant load any sketch on my my new R4. Not even the samples! Using Mac OS.

For my first sketches i just wanted to experiment with the LED Matrix. I wrote simple sketch for the static heart shape etc. Was comiled just fine (after fixing a few errors etc). On uploading I get "Exit Status 1" So I then try a matrix sample from the IDE. Same problem!

I have seen other posts but have yet to see something that works.

change your cable.

i use a dedicated usb c/8 pin cable because my cheapo cable from my phone caused that error.

See if you got a better quality cable in your assortment.

succes!

That's just a final conclusion saying, "it failed" - you need to look earlier in the output to see what has gone wrong.

Please post the full text of all the output you get on uploading - use copy & paste

Exit status 1 only indicates that the process has failed. Look for preceding lines in the error output for more specific information.

Check Errors when uploading a sketch.

Please try out these basic steps:

  1. Do complete Uninstall Arduino IDE and then re-install the Arduino IDE (use Arduino IDE 2.1.1). Make sure that you install all the dependencies that shows up after the installation.

  2. Install your board's Package Core, it contains the board's driver.

  3. Use a good quality data USB cable to connect the board to the computer without anything connected or wired to the board. . Charging/bad USB cable will make it impossible for your computer to detect your board or for you to upload a sketch.

  4. Make sure you select the board and the port it is connected to before uploading a sketch.

  5. If #1-4 above fails to solve it, double tap the reset button fast and check the status of the onboard "L" LED. If the onboard LED fade in and out slowly (pulsating), upload an example sketch (Blink LED) from the IDE to the board. This will Reset your board

Dozie, firstly, thanks very much for taking the time to assist me. I greatly appreciate it.
None of these steps help unfortunately. I even bought an expensive USB cable in case that was the problem.
Apart from the "Exit Status 1" message the console, states that "no device found on cu.usbmodem... etc" Which is REALLY odd because the Board Manager instantly recognizes that not only is there an attached Board, but that is a R4 Wifi etc.
I see that there are tips on your site to unblock ports etc but that is way above my understanding.

This is upsetting as I have blown the cost of the new R4.

Again, thanks

Apologies

That is the really really important bit.

It shows your board is stuck in a non working mode.

So number 5 is what you need to do. If you get the same thing again then unplug your board quickly plug it back in an instantly click on the download.
