Uno, why not Arduino "peta" or "exa" ?

I discovered the existence of a Uno R4 and I was very surprised when I discovered it.

Why this name as unsuitable as "Uno"? R for Revision or for Ravel ?
With so many performance and features differences the name "Uno" makes no sense. With previous logic the name could have been Arduino giga, tera, peta, exa for exemple....

beginners who want an arduino uno will be lost buying an "Uno" R4 and those who want an R4 will be in a mess of offers that have nothing to do.

All valid concerns, but there's not much that could be changed now, even if everyone was in agreement.

Form factor. You can debate the names for the Zero and Leonardo as they have the same form factor; but they are from an era before the time that Arduino started to name things similar.

Have a look at all the different Nanos; the only thing that they have in common is the form factor.

I would say yes, same form factor. I'm not familiar with the Giga but notice the following after a quick look at the pinout

  1. I2C on the same pins as the Mega (next to Aref) and I2C on the same pins in the communication block. They are however different I2C 'ports'.
  2. SPI on 11/12/13 which differs from the Mega and SPI on the 6 pin header which is the same as the Mega. Again, different SPI 'ports'.
  3. Missing a couple of analogue inputs.
