UNO with "did not find any USB device "USB"" hanging while uploading.

Hi guys, looking for some guidance. I <3 my arduino UNO and did not have any issues connecting with my old acre aspire one netbook laptop with windows XP through a USB cable.

Put arduino away for a while and moved to a new house and got a new laptop and now problems...

First of all, the new laptop has only windows 7 starter edittion, and cannot find the driver for it, the arduino.inf or UNO.inf. I have the files, can point to the folder, but no results found. Along with the obvious not communicating.

Gave up, tried old laptop (that it worked before on). Now that doesn't work either. I Receive "did not find any USB device "USB"".

I've seen the posts about switching programmer modes but still nothing.

Now, interestingly with the old laptop with XP I can still monitor values without problem as the program runs.

But when I try to upload it just freezes or brings up the previous error, the TX light on the UNO will stay lit when trying to upload.

Anyone have any ideas? Is the board junk?

turns out I'm an idiot, i coulda swore i had an UNO... .turns out I actually have a Micro. changed board setting and all good now.
