You can also consider keeping the 1.8.6 on your PC and add a portable installation of 1.8.16 to your PC, that you can use separately from 1.8.6.
(at the moment I have 9 different portable installations installed on my PC, some of which customized and/or tweaked with library adaptations etc.)
