Upload problem - Mac - Arduino UNO

Hi there,

I just purchased my first Arduino. I tried to upload one of the examples first, just to test and make sure I could upload, and that's when problems began. I couldn't upload anything.

I am using a Mac Pro with OS 10.5.8. I understand I need no drivers for the UNO, but even so, I ran the driver file that comes with the Arduino software. I selected the proper arduino in tools and I selected the TTY port. There are many ports but only one is USB, it's obvious and I am only unsure about the two "versions" shown, tty and cu.
When I try to upload anything (hitting the upload button) I see an error message saying the following:

Binary sketch size: 970 bytes (of a 32256 byte maximum)
avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding
avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding

I only get this message once. After the first time it just freezes and most times I can't even close the software and I've been rebooting.

I found that Mac locates the Arduino within networks. I don't know if I should configure the "modem" in any way. Most info online says I don't have to do this.

My Arduino came with a blinker program already loaded, so it keeps blinking when I connect it, but I have never seen the TX or RX LEDs to show any signs of life. I'm getting nervous, desperate and hungry. I want to start playing with my new cool toy.

What may I be doing wrong? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

Bernardo

My Arduino works. I was able to use it from Win7, but I also want to use it from my MAC. Any ideas?

When you plug the Arduino Uno into a Mac it will pop up a dialog that says:

A new network interface has been detected.

The "Arduino Uno" network interface has not been set
up. To set up this interface, use Network Preferences.

(Cancel) (Network Preferences...)

Just click on Cancel. If you've already set up the network interface, you may have to remove it.

Are you using an USB Hub? If so, connect directly to the Mac's USB port. (Try moving to different ports since some of the external ports are connected through an internal Hub.)
