Uploading a sketch to esp32 is Intermittent

I have built a servo clock and it has 28 servos that control a segment in a seven segment digit.
I have to trim each one to the servos to put each segment into proper position. This requires many changes in the sketch and many uploads. Sometimes the upload go well but many times it fails.
I am using Arduino IDE v 2.0.4 and I am uploading to a ESP32 board. The error reads: "A fatal error occurred: Could not open COM4, the port doesn't exist" . I have rebooted the computer (Win 11) and changed com ports, nothing seems to help. Thanks for your help.

Is this your upload process ?

  1. Press and hold the RESET switch.
  2. Press and hold the BOOT switch.
  3. Release the RESET switch.
  4. When the % upload is ~ 25% release the BOOT switch.
