uploading errors

Several months I was getting the 'not in sync' messages when uploading and was told I needed to get a new board.
This is on a brand new UNO R3. After getting several 'not in sync' messages I am getting this message.

avr-ar: unable to rename 'core.a'; reason: No such file or directory
Binary sketch size: 5978 bytes (of a 32256 byte maximum)
avrdude: stk500_disable(): protocol error, expect=0x14, resp=0x20

Several months I was getting the 'not in sync' messages when uploading and was told I needed to get a new board.

I'm on a mac OS 10.4.11.

When will Arduino publish a list of error messages and their english explanations?

Mac OS X 10.4 is six generations back from the current release. What version of the IDE are you running on it?

The date on it is 6/1/2009. There is no version number.

The Arduino IDE version number should be found when the IDE is open and you click on the menu tab item "Arduino" and select the "About Arduino". You will see the version above the logo.

Stuck on Tiger, unless your running a non-intel MAC or one of the MAC Mini's that has issues upgrading to the newer version of OSX, I would upgrade. I do agree that keep the Tiger version has some plus side in I lost use of a hand full of old applications that jsut would not run on the newer OSX after they dropped classic support.

But the benifits of staying up to latest version if one can has more gain then loss.

The only number I see is 0022 in the graphic, which is a heck of a way to tell someone what the version is.

The good news is I found a way around the problem. when I shut off the power and power the arduino from the programming cable, I'm able to download. On the old version, I was able to leavethe power on with the programming cable attached.
