Background: my Yun is in the greenhouse in the backyard communicating via WiFi. It works great, except it is at the border of my WiFi coverage, so when the neighbors transmit on channels close to mine, it tends to interfere and temporarily block the Yun's Wifi (it comes back just fine by itself).
So I have considered running a CAT5 cable to the greenhouse and use Ethernet for communication. So, finally to my question, can you upload sketches over Ethernet? It seems that if can over WiFi you should be able to over ethernet, but I have never seen it mentioned (or found it with a search). I don't want to go through the trouble of running the cable if for some reason I can not upload sketches.
A) Thank you for the confirmation
B) I was going to do that, but the Yun is wired up to sensors and power in the greenhouse, and it takes a (little) effort to move it into my "lab". I was just looking through my cables to see if I have a CAT5 that is long enough to reach the greenhouse 'on the ground'.
I already went through trying different channels, but unfortunately there are neighbors around having fairly strong signals at channels 1, 6, and 9. So that pretty much spreads over the whole band.
I haven't thought about the laptop idea, but believe it or not, I don't have a laptop these days, I use my Mac Desktop and iPads.
I Cut a lid for a 100 spool of CD's in half and lined it with foil, works quite well with my router. Not sure about the yun, maybe put the whole device in the middle of dish.
Hi Bjarne,
As an addition to pYro_65's suggestion, I wonder how useful (but costly?) an external directional (not omnidirectional) antenna connected to the Yun would be to cut through the noise of your neighbors's wifi. This topic has a bit more info: http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=188976.0

Thanks guys,
Yes I have considered a directional antenna on the Yun, and I think it would probably help. The problem is that the connector on the Yun is NOT a u.fl connector, so any connection to an external antenna would be somewhat kludgy. So the simplest solution for me is to just run a CAT5 to the greenhouse. I might even be able to use the Yun as a range extender to get better WiFi coverage in the back yard, we'll see!
If you use a dish, you do not need to connect the yun to it, simply sit it in the middle. This will reflect some energy that would normally head in the opposite direction to your router.
The Ethernet over power line and POE seem like good alternatives.
