Uploading to Uno w/ Gentoo fails

Hi,

I'm trying to get my Arduino Uno running with Gentoo (x86)

I installed arduino-0.21 and rxtx-2.2_pre2 from the overlay and avrdude-5.10 from portage.

The Power-LED is on, after Reset the L-Led flickers for about a second. Uno is selected in Boards, and /dev/ttyACM0 as Serial Controller.

Trying to upload the Blink-Expample I get:

Binary sketch size: 978 bytes (of a 32256 byte maximum)
/usr/share/arduino-0021/hardware/tools/avrdude -C/usr/share/arduino-0021/hardware/tools/avrdude.conf -v -v -v -v -patmega328p -cstk500v1 -P/dev/ttyACM0 -b115200 -D -Uflash:w:/tmp/build7315047689847273776.tmp/Blink.cpp.hex:i

Double check connections and try again, or use -F to override

avrdude done.  Thank you.

TX and RX Leds are flickering while the upload is running.

When trying to write manually with -F there seems to be no error - but no Blinking ;(

What is going wrong?

Robelix

got it! - quite a hard start for a noob:

1) changed uno.upload.protocol in boards.conf from stk500 to arduino 2) hold reset, and release when upload starts 3) The Blink example does not blink. No idea why. But the BlinkWithoutDelay works.

I think the delay problems are caused by the version of avr-gcc you have. For some reason, 4.5.x seems to have this issue. You should try to use 4.3.x instead (4.3.2 or later).

I downgraded avr-gcc from 4.5.2 to 4.3.5 and avr-libc from 1.7.0 to 1.6.2 - but still the same: the Blink-Example does not Blink.

Downgrade / recompile avr-binutils to a version patched with Debian's avr-binutils patch set. (The bug seems to be in avr-ld)

Thank you stimmer!

binutils-2.20.1-r1 instead of 2.21 - and Blink finally blinks ;)
