Well, Science Fair time has come around again, and I need some help finding parts...
Basically I need 5 80mm computer fans and 5 according power supplies... I keep searching, but the prices are quite high... I would like all for $50 or under, and $75 is ABSOLUTE MAX!!!
Not really sure why you need 5 power supplies for just 5 fans. Do you run the fans in separate places? It may be better off with just one power supply and long wires. Fans don't cost that much.
Do you really need 5 separate power supplies? BG Micro has 24V fans for a buck a pop, and a 24VAC plug-in transformer for $8. Add a diode bridge, filter caps, and a 7824, and you can make yourself a 24V, half Amp or so power supply for about $13-15 (don't forget to include a heatsink for the 7824). You may also find a cheap surplus laptop switcher from the days when many of them had 22-24V supplies. Add a roll of zip cord to spread the power around, and you can do the whole thing for about $30.
My fans were from Newegg, and they got here Wednsday
My 2.1MM Jack from AllElectronics got here Wednsday as well
My power supplies from ATVResearch are not here yet, and coincidently, they don't have tracking...
Well, I divided by 0 four times... Busted 4 of my 10 fans! Thank got for buying extra! Only needed 5...
Anyways, I just finished soldering (No burns! 1st time ever! Breaking new ground here, people!), hot glueing (Unfortunately, burns here...) , and Liquid Nails-ing (Physically impossible to burn yourself here (Although some of you could foind a way, I'm sure )) the rigs together.
Testing should start Tuesday, when the Liquid Nails is fully cured.
