Sorry, I got the assignment yesterday. I believe I have a Arduino Uno Microcontroller Board and a PIR sensor. I know a bit about coding but haven't done it since last year, so it may come back to me if I look into it.
Alright, I got the Arduino Uno. I have a PIR sensor, will that work? Also definitely don't have a 4x4 matrix membrane keypad.

Really? Your school gave out the assignment yesterday and they want it handed in next week? That's hard to believe - that timescale is far too challenging for a school student, in my opinion.
Again, this puzzles me. Your school must have taught you most of what you need; having to do extensive research is more like university level. Did you skip the classes?
Anyway, your first step should be to approach your teacher and explain that you are having trouble getting started.
it's probably a 1 hour work for a skilled programmer with existing bits and pieces of code but not for a newbie, so I agree the timing sounds puzzling if you have very limited coding background or basic understanding of the various pieces.
There is something you are not telling here - or the teacher has non realistic expectations.
So show us what you have written as code so far.
For some reason you are short on giving information.
My guess is staying short on information is just waisting time and you have no time to loose.
