Usb cable length affects program upload on arduino uno r3

Noticed the upload attempted to program the UNO R3 board, (lights flashing) and then the output window showed the upload forever cycle. Changed the usb cable to a short 6" length with no ferrite on the end of it. The upload worked and proceeding to the next lessons.

I bet the original cable was defective, I normally use 1M cables. You might want to bin that cable.

How long was your other cable? The quality of the cable that you use is also important; it's something that you can't judge from the outside.

The USB cable is roughly 6 foot with a ferrite noise shield on one end.
