USB connection doesn't work

Hi guys...I'm a new user, sorry for my english, I don't know it well. Recently I bought an arduino starter kit with Arduino uno rev3. After a couple of sketches arduino doesn't work. In particular the usb connection. The pc, with ArchLinux, doesn't see arduino. I checked the correct serial port and then I tried to to remove and reinstall the driver but nothing.
The led L doesn't blink even if i push the reset button. I searched with google and i found this solution:
http://playground.arduino.cc/Italiano/Pobleminoti#blocco
but didn't work.
Then i tried to change the chip atmega because i red that problem could be a corrupt bootloader but nothing. In this case however when push the button reset, the led L flashes briefly and then remains fixed.
I have no idea can you suggest me any solution?

Try the "loopback test" and find out if the USB/Serial adapter chip is good.

im having the same problem with my mega2650 r3 the L led blinks once then stays on solid

have you found a solution to this yet?

I'm having the same trouble with the USB, I checked the hardware and everything seems to be up to snuff, I ran the loop test as well and the diagnostic didn't seem to find anything wrong. Any other suggestions please?
