Hello, I have an old iPhone charger cable and a portable phone charger (5 V, 2500 mAh) that I am hoping to use to power my arduino uno. I've used the portable charger with a USB A to B wire to power my arduino before and it works well. Now, I am hoping to cut the iPhone charger cable and directly connect the power and ground wires to the 5V and GND pins on the arduino and still use the USB side to connect to the portable charger. Will there be any problem with this? I just know that the Uno has some sort of a USB bridge for UART stuff, but i don't think that is relevant for just power. Thanks!
No there is no problem in doing that. Just be aware that some cables are wired wrong if the chinese person assembling it were colorblind, so after cutting off the plug, verify that red and black wire are indeed supply and that red is positive. Once that is checked, you are good to go.

I don't think confusing red and black would result from colorblindness. Red, orange, yellow or light green, as well as blue, black, dark green, and of course brown could all be color confused, but red and black are distince to ny flavor of colorblindness. The cause could be laziness.
