Can anyone tell me a cheap supplier of USB FTDI cables for programming Arduino's without the USB chip on board? Everywhere I have looked they cost a small fortune.

That is not what I am looking for. I am after the USB cables with the FTDI chip built in - Like this....

I just bought one from adafruit, $20 + shipping:
The 12$ BUB by moderndevice is actually much better than the FTDI cable.
- it breaks out more signals
- jumper for 3.3/5V logic level
- auto reset works
