USB host shield 2.0 on Arduino Uno 'waiting for device'

I'm new to arduino and trying to learn my way around. When I run the quality control script from the usb host shield 2.0 library by Oleg Mazurov it keeps saying 'waiting for device', even though I do have a mouse connected to it and mouse does get power as the light of the mouse turns on.
What am I doing wrong? I have been looking around this forum and some others and I cannot find the answer anywhere.

Some boards appear to be dead-on-arrival from the factory. CHIP MAXIM3421 · Issue #765 · felis/USB_Host_Shield_2.0 · GitHub

I believe that your board pin is dead to recognize but still I recommended you to kindly change the cable or try plugging to different device if still the issue occur. Kindly power the device directly and check the voltage on all the pins
