USB not recognized

Hey guys,

I'm having an issue with my Macbook Pro not seeing my USB Serial port.

If I plug in my USB cable with a 'Type B' end into my Arduino Uno, the Arduino IDE picks it up as a serial port, no problem. I can happily upload to my Uno.

If I play in my USB cable with a 'mini B' end on it into the Arduino Nano, the Arduino IDE no longer displays any of the USB ports under the Serial Ports menu.

Could this be something wrong with the cable itself? It powers up the Nano when I plug it in, but like I said I can't upload anything to it because I can't select it as a Serial Port.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Could be the cable. Also make sure you are using USB 2.0 ports. They don't work reliably or at all with USB 3.0 ports. If you don't have any USB 2.0 ports, you will need to get a USB 2.0 HUB.

I'll see if I can get another cable.

I'll check the types of USB ports I have on the Mac too.

I've also read that these things may not have a boot loader installed from the factory.

Thanks for the feedback!
