USB Port Overload

Hello! I am trying to connect an analog mass flow meter to my Arduino Uno. The flow meter requires an input voltage of 5V and current of 5 mA according to the datasheet below. When I connect the board to my computer with the supply voltage on 5V, I get an error message saying the device is drawing too much power for my USB port. If I connect the same circuit to my computer with the supply voltage of 3.3V, I do not get an error but the sensor does not work. Any suggestions about what might be happening and how I could fix it?

Are you wiring this using the matching mating connector?

Most likely, there something wrong with your wiring. If you post a hand drawn wiring diagram and a closeup, focused photo of the setup, perhaps someone can help.

what else is connected to the Arduino. Checking with Mr Ohm he states as the voltage goes up the current will also go up as long as the resistance does not change.
