USB Port Side Chip heating up when connected to Arduino IDE

Hi there,
Over the past few days, my Arduino uno r3 was working completely fine with no problems until recently where I plugged the cable to program this morning and the chip at the side started heating up intensely for no reason whatsoever. My L293D board didn't receive any power and the board is on , but it doesn't recognise the port.

Any help would be really appreciated thanks.

This is the chip that heated up exponentially.

Which one?

If it's the little square one right next to the USB port, that's the chip that handles USB<>Serial communication (mostly). There's no reason in a bare Arduino board for it to heat up. You do mention a L293D motor driver so I assume something has been hooked up to this board in one way or another. Presumably something went wrong in one of those experiments.

L293D had no problems whatsoever, but this morning I disconnected it and it heated up exponentially.

The chip I'm talking about is the gold chip underneath the USB port with the arduino logo.

That's the fuse. You got a short. Remove all wires and parts, and check for stray metal bits anywhere. Then try again. If it still heats up, something may have gone bad on your Uno
