USBTiny - is that possible?

Hi,
My camera (Nikon D40) is able to be remotely controlled by PC and i wonder if there is a chance to do this by arduino as well.
Of course the Arduino itself wouldnt fit to control something via USB, but i wonder if USBTiny would suit such a problem together with an Arduino...

Are there any users here who know about the USBTiny's possibilites a bit more in detail?

I don't think so for the USB. However it seems there has been several posts around here about using the Arduino as a IR remote transmitter to control/command these kinds of cameras, search around.

I know that such posts exist, even a library is available. The interestering thing about the usb interface is that the camera settings (exposure times etc) can only be accessed via it. IR is only for taking shots but unfortunatly not changing values.

The USBTiny firmware is based on what is now called the V-USB driver and you can find a lot more on features/limitations here: http://www.obdev.at/products/vusb/prjprog.html.

To interface directly with a USB gadget (camera, memory-stick, ...) you will need something that supports USB host mode (USBTiny does not). I've seen that FTDI offer chips that support USB host mode and there is a reference to a break-out board here: http://apple.clickandbuild.com/cnb/shop/ftdichip?op=catalogue-products-null&prodCategoryID=53&title=VDIP1.
