USE a salvaged canon printer power supply with LM2596 Step down (buck converter)

SO i have a Arduino Nano and I have salvaged the Scanner Light bar which was an RGB LED ( Score). Got that rewired, hooked up and ran a color hue sketch. AWESOME! Now I want to use the power supply i got from it as well, but it is 24 V and IDK the mA. But the point is I have soldered up a buck converter LM2596, and I can adjust the output down to the acceptable range for the arduino input. But I am not a EE yet, far from it at this point. As Long as I tune it to the acceptable range, there should be no reason why I cant power it ( the NANO) with the conversion I have done?????? RIGHT????

When you say "a buck converter LM2596", I would presume you mean a pre-built module such as you might find on eBay or DealExtreme.

If so, and it is adjusted to 5V, then that sounds quite OK.

Yes Mr. Paul B! I did get a module from hobbypartz.com. So as long as I stay under the recommended voltage its A-OK?? I use a 9V now to power it on Vin pin, and plan to do so with my new power supply set up
