I Could, and for the right job i would.
But what is that ?

see i'm also a business owner as he is, and since he's hiring it means the rate i would need would be out of the budget ($300 per hour approx).
it's not viable for him to pay $300 per hour, he needs under $50 per hour to be in budget.

i would relocate for maybe $800 per hour regularly
i mean its sydney to U.S.A. ..Life change

itd still be a cool job though, all money aside

I'll Forgive you this one time :stuck_out_tongue:

You are in the teenager pay category. A person cannot live in Seattle for that pay.

Really ? didn't know that.
Here in Sydney Average pay is like $30 per hour, $50 per hour for an employee is considered good.
However as a business, $200 per hour is Average

ha, ha, must be post covid pay.

well, 32,000 a week, would actually be 1,664,00.00 yearly..
relocate me anywhere in the world, pay me that, I'd move mountains..
but honestly..
already checked rent is about the same 2-3,000 a month as it is where i'm at and currently looking, up about 80%..
have to make 3 times that to qualify..
inflation is rampant, interest rates going up, we're in a bubble and it needs to pop already..
sorry for ranting, finding a place to call home is not easy..

don't mind Seattle, rained allot whenever I visited, remember mud slides, lot's of hills, good coffee and you got a space needle..

one of my biggest problems, always sold myself short, others made millions and i thousands..

life is hard..

Let’s stop hijacking the initial posts.
We can open a « cost of life and engineering salaries » in the bar sport section

Hmmm... How to answer a person who is unrealistic and has low expectations ??

  • o.k so to be clear though i already said it likely won't be in his budget, but... your focus is on what i'd expect.

  • Also you could have not killed yourself and just went $800 hourly x40 x52 weeks.
you see not all months are the same so as a result you rip yourself off $128,000.
as @qubits-us said the total is $1,664,000

  • As @qubits-us also said

  • so you need to understand
  1. I'm in Sydney

  2. I would need to make a complete life change

  3. Also if that's a low pay in seattle i would need to evaluate the economic climate there and what i expect

  4. the $300 per hour i get was on the lower end of my scale.
    I'm self-employed so i'm already on $300 - $500 per hour

So as @noweare eluded, apparently this is a joke, and you think i'm "unrealistic" :stuck_out_tongue:

Mate i accept there is a huge gap between "Self Employed" and "Employee" but do you know why that is ?
It's because you settle for so little.
Now.. some 27 years ago + .. so did i, i remember being 0n $15 per hour , is that more realistic for you ?
Because i also remember being poor and struggling wondering how i'll pay a $400 bill or ever buy a house and with houses in Sydney now over $1Million it seems impossible for most, Is that the "Realistic" you're talking about ?
See... i want to be realistic and not struggle when i retire so i made a decision to never work for less than $100 per hour, and look at where that led to!

  • To move i would need more than what i have now (otherwise there is no incentive) Right ???

  • So YES... That's what i'd expect

  • The fact you call it "Simple" Coder level is a largely your problem

  • Notice he also stated

Doesn't sound simple to me...

  • You sell yourself short , mate.
But you see if you earn $1,000 a week you can't buy a home, if you're self employed you can pay for it outright in 4 years , so.. Yeah..

To make the move ,Yeah that;s what i would want .
But again in the spirit of being realistic

  • It's not in his budget
  • It's not viable for him to hire me
  • I know this
    I'm just saying .. it;d be a cool job

But being realistic.. if he pays me say.. $50 per hour ($104,000) annually.
Would you leave your life that makes approx 1.5Million annually for $100,000 ?
I'd say that's very unrealistic wouldn't you ? I'd say that's mental.

Compare apples with apples ok
here in sydney i can go out do a cabling job for a whole week and lets say i make $30,000 clear on it,.. Exact same job but it's an employed person, maybe they take home $1,000 before expenses
or if its a day it's like $4,000 to $5,000 but a worker might get $150 - $200 for the day

Never sell yourself short mate and never laugh at a person like @noweare did who has achieved a lot and more than yourself
I don't say this to belittle you, i was once very poor, i say it to open your eyes
But i'm not the joke here , nor am i unrealistic... But i don't take offense and i do understand as i was once an employee

Try this as an exercise (this helped me a long time ago)
Once you achieve a certain level of income "Never accept a lower rate on your next position even if you have to give up the position"

What that will do will.. it will ensure you always earn more.
and "realistic " is a matter of perception of what you deem "real" or "reasonable".
without people like you , people like me can't gain leverage over time or money

There is a reason why schools teach you for 12 years to be a worker.
its so

  • For a job that i would hire out at say $5,000 a day i can pay you say $200 a day,
now say after expenses i make $4,000 a day

  • i now hire 10 like you and i have $40,000 a day.
This is impossible to do if you are NOT of the opinion that i'm being unrealistic.
if you knew it was realistic you'd never do it for $200 a day and i'd be stuffed

so yeah.. to make the move i would want that amount
but you see if i did it'd also be smarter for me to setup a business there instead
but i'm already setup in Sydney

like i said.. It'd be a cool job :stuck_out_tongue: in any case.

I understand you are the new guy here but you really need to stop high-jacking threads.

Apologies.. I've deleted them all

Deleting them makes the whole thing even more unreadable…
I’ moved the whole thing in the bar to clean up the original thread

OK. Apologies
i undeleted them

I'll keep this confusing experience in mind for the future

I moved that out of the thread anyway so it’s not a big deal

Side note

I agree on the never sell you short previous comments.

I started poor and in debt for my engineering tuition and ended up on the wealthy side. So have been there done that.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t shoot for that, it’s a personal call, I’m just saying that knowing employees salaries and perks in Seattle or California (or NY or Texas..), you won’t find a job offering $1.5m a year for an engineer. Go to senior Director or Above level in a large publicly traded company and sure it’s not out of reach with stock compensation vesting over a few years.

Anyway - enjoy Australia. Great place to live (if you don’t mind having 20 out of 25 of the most venomous animals on the planet including the top 11 ones as my friends there say).

ok fair enough

oh ok , i had you pegged as not being there or done that

Fair enough neither would you in sydney for an employee
but you asked "would i expect it"
yes for a move from sydney to USA definitely i would
or i wouldnt move

Naaah mate they don't attack locals only foreigners
so if you come here be careful.... Maybe call me first and i'll keep you safe.
i'll tell the critters "it's ok he's with me"
i regularly have 4 Magpies that come to feed each morning at my doorstep,,,Beef strips.

i regularly see red backs and you just kill em. i mean it's either him or me :stuck_out_tongue:
so i don't mind , we hardly notice it

retired early, enjoying life ever since

fair point

I knew it !!! (have been there a few times, loved it and did not have any bad encounters)

LOL
Mate , you probably bought someone a beer and they firetruckin appreciated it.(Firetruck is not a bad word here , right ?) :stuck_out_tongue:
and without you knowing

  • they went to corroboree
" an Australian Aboriginal dance ceremony which may take the form of a sacred ritual or an informal gathering."

  • and they spoke to the tribal elders and told them you were a top bloke

  • The tribal elders spoke to rainbow serpeant

  • The rainbow serpeant then spoke to all manner of creatures in the territory
and told them to spread the word that you were protected

Little did you know there was a funnel web and a king brown snake right at your feet.
You actually stepped on his tail,...
But.. You were spared because he respected the rainbow serpeant for giving him life

In Australia you have now earned your "Top Bloke" Badge.
Did you not get the notification ?
That's probably what happened. :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyone else... Watch Out !!

Here in Australia you will find;

Rich sparkies (Electricians)
Rich plumbers
Rich brickies (Builders)
Rich lollypop holders (Traffic "co-ordinators" that hold the STOP/SLOW lollypop, some can get up to $100,000 per year, due to a extras for standing in the freezing rain or standing in the blazing sunshine)

Very few "rich" engineers.

Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi.

And we don't need to carry a gun in the street.
A mate of mine has a work colleague currently in Texas, he was out for a morning run and the cops stopped him, for a weapons check.
They were astounded when they found out he was unarmed.

The world is such a diverse and complicated place.

Tom... :+1: :coffee: :australia:

Or one could put it as corruption, especially in Victoria....Where I live they do "roadworks" yet the road is still falling apart.

I agree.....
