User interface labels on project

So I am going to 3D print an enclosure and I will have various buttons, rotary encoders and other user input devices. I will likely use black PLA. I would like to label the user interfaces, but I am unclear as to how I can do that. What technology would be used to print on plastic so that I can have a professional look and label all of my controls? i can imagine I can print on vinyl labels, but then my background is likely going to be white or transparent (enclosure color), but printing white letters is not in the realm of a standard laser printer. What techniques do commercial vendors use to emboss labels or logos on their products? It needs to be durable.

  1. inkjet printer, printout, lamination, scissor, doubleside sticky band.
  2. sticky printable sheets or vinyl foil , cnc cutout or whatever.
  3. acrylic paint, brush, (Stencil and ink spray without acetone)
    etc.

You could consider embossing the labels on the case itself (e.g., union or difference of text when you use something like OpenSCAD) and use some paint to highlight them.

or perhaps a reverse emboss - an inset then use paint to fill the indented letters. I probably need to upgrade to a resin 3d printer. yep. need more tools!
