Sorry, I have not tried out new versions of GCC with this board.

As for debuggers. Not sure if any of the below will help or not, but thought I would mention
it as your github issue mentioned your hardware debugger is currently out of commission:

Thanks for the update. If you end up still running into that problem with the debug.toolchain.prefix property, please let me know and I'll investigate. I'm using this nice little open source CMSIS-DAP compliant debug probe: It works perfectly with the SAMD boards and the Arduino IDE 2.x integrated sketch debugger. The creator Alex Taradov also suggests a DIY debug probe based on a RPi Pico board in the description of that product listing. I haven't found the time to try that out yet, but …

But he is not currently selling them, BUT he has github project:
ataradov/free-dap: Free and open implementation of the CMSIS-DAP debugger firmware (github.com)

Which is also setup that it can be flashed on some other boards, like RPI 2040 and PICO... So if you have some of these boards and are in hurry to try something out...

Debug GIGA using IDE2 Debugger?

I noticed that the new board release 4.0.10 now has some stuff in the boards.txt and the like that enables the debug button in the IDE. Does it work? Any suggestions on which hardware debugger to use? setup? In my case I have a: ST-Link V2 with an OliMex 20 to 10 pin converter which I used to use to program a board that Trossen Robotics used to make: J-Link Mini EDU - Which sometimes connects and could debug using the Seger software.
