Using ACS712 to measure AC (current and voltage) for Noobs

I am buying an ACS712. And I want to measure Current and voltage from the mains. My first question is, is it possible to do so without adding any extra circuitry ?

If it is possible, could anybody give a code or an Algorithm to help me achieve it? I am a noob at electronics.

No.

This is a great resource for safe methods to monitor AC power.

i have purchased the ACS712 already . Could you point to a guide that has that?

I assume that you have one of many boards with ACS712, not just a chip on its own ... so :

isnt that for DC current ?

It doesn't matter if it's DC or AC. If measured value is fluctuating too fast, then you can take, for example, 100 samples and average them.

just another thing. What is this calibrating thing? How to I calibrate my module and get a final value in AMPS?

Remind me, where did you tell us what kind of board do you have ?
