Using an Arduino for a gaming keypad

Hey I'm somewhat new to the world of coding with arduinos and such but, I need help with a new project of mine. I'm looking to build a gaming keypad using an arduino and (Google gaming keypad to see what i have in mind) I have already bought the keys i need, their cherry mx switches popular in mechanical keyboards. I looked around the arduino playground and noticed they have a section on keyboards, joyticks and such. But the problem I'm having is I don't know to connect the keys to the arduino do I use a breadboard or what? If anyone has done such a thing or something similiar please let me know.

(Let me know if i provided to little details or need more)
