Using GPS Receiver MAX2769

Hi, im noob on arduino development, and im looking for some clues, i got a MAX2769 yesterday from MAXIM, just 2 samples, and im wondering if exist some help to connect to arduino or if someone had some experience with this micro(max2769).

Thanks a lot.

The MAX2769 is not a GPS, it is the RF end of a GPS. There is lots more to a complete GPS receiver.

Uff thats a good fall, :frowning: so i need more to build a GPS with the max2769, do u have any clue ??? of where can i find some info.

thanks a lot.

A GPS receiver is an incredibly complex piece of equipment. To build one you need to have a great deal of knowledge of RF, DSP, programming, etc.

Building a GPS receiver out of an Arduino would be like building the space shuttle using only a dremel tool.

LOL, well i have a life to build it and the knowledge lol im a electronic, cybernetic and systems enginneer, and electric, electronic technician.

thanks you for the advice i will continue the research.

gets research together - i have now max2769evkit

Hey I just came across this complete GPS module that will easily interface with Arduino. Will post the link next (this is my first post ever).

Here you go: http://www.nkcelectronics.com/gps-micromini.html

Excelent i will test that.

Thanks a lot.

Why not just use one of these ?

o.k. - I will post the link in the next message, as I too am new to this forum ...

What about this GPS module? It has the required NEMA output as well as BlueTooth.... and is only $20.

I don't know anything about it, but might be worth checking.

Here is another GPS for the Arduino and only $29 each

Have fun - and let us know how it goes.

I have a question regarding the comment made by kg4wsv.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying. There are dozens of GPS items sold and intended for use with the Arduino. It seems as though the right shield with the correct GPS module would get you GPS functionality. It may be that I don't quite understand what is expected in this example.

However, I had hoped to add GPS route finding to a robot I have been building. In short I would like the robot to follow "a path of digital bread crumbs".

Is this a fools errand? Am I about to bite off a piece that can't be chewed? Unlike the original poster I have little engineering experience. I have been an electronics tech for more than thirty years, and my programming skills are improving.

I'm confused. I thought this was a common project.

Check the original post. It was not "can/how do I use a GPS with the arduino", it's "how do I hook up a MAX2769 to an arduino and make a GPS out of it". A quick glance at Maxim's web site shows that the MAX2769 is not a complete GPS, it's an RF receiver designed to be an RF front-end used in building a GPS unit.

Yes, you can add a GPS to an arduino. As you point out, there are lots of ways to do this, lots of others have done so, and it's usually a pretty simple serial communications problem to interface one with an arduino. There's even a library (TinyGPS) to parse the sentences for you.

Don't worry, your project is certainly doable.

Ahhh, quite right! Sorry for not paying more attention.

Thank you for your speedy response!

Oh and ... phew! :sunglasses:

hi,everyone. i've just got a max2769. and i want to design a Gps receiver with it. but i get trouble in processing the output from max2769. May you give me some advice?
