There seems to be a lot of different libraries written for the bunch of char lcd displays that are out there. I want to try using the liquidTWI2 library but I am not sure if it is compatible with th pin setup of the lcd2004 (PCF8574T) or hd44780.
Has anyone had success using this setup or know how/what can be changed to make it all match up?

the proof is in the pudding test. Do it and you know it, is often faster than waiting for an answer on the forum.
Furthermore you did not post a link to the lib used so it is hard to give meaningful advice ....
LiquidTWI2 is the lib I want to use.
I am new to arduino so I didn't say I tried and it dodnt work because I am not 100% sure I didn't do something else wrong. I want to know if it should work. Right now for me it does not.
MCP23017 has similar functions like PCF8574 but it has 16 digital ports. I think thats what i need to fix just dont know how...
