Using TLC5925 with Arduino or ESP32

Hello forum,
i have a general question with regards to wiring TLC5925 to arduino or esp32 via SPI.
Wired three 5925 together with SDI to SDO to the next 5925.
where does the SDO of the last 5925 get tied to ?
with a search on Mr. Google, some designs show SDO as no connect, i've seen some designs with SDO connect back to the arduino/esp/microcontroller as input, perhaps reading SDO for error data ?

if i'm driving leds why would i need to connect SDO back to uP
OR
if i'm using 5925 as shift register to drive 7-segments to display digital clock from RTC, why or why not connect SDO back to uP ?

Can anyone clarify why SDO would or would not be tied back to uP ?
