Using voltage signal from exercise bike to measure speed in Video gaming

Hi, I’m currently working on a project where we’re using an exercise bike which is hooked up with controllers, a computer and a screen to play video games. We’re currently using a light sensor connected to the rear wheel to analyse the speed of the player, however I want to try and use the voltage that the bike measures and translate this into a digital signal and later use that as our input instead of the light sensor. The only problem is that I’m a product designer and have almost no idea on how to do this. How do I locate the voltage signal, etc? We’re currently using The sportmaster U30 bike-model.
ANY help would be highly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Pia

What is wrong with continuing to use the light sensor? Without the schematic of the bike, you will be hard pressed to find the correct signal. It seems much easier to measure the rotational speed of the wheel like you are doing now.
