Vacuum control using Arduino to current sense power saw

Hi All,

I'm looking for help with using an arduino to control a mains powered vacuum when it senses that a mains powered saw is switched on.

My view of the hardware/Arduino/software could be this:

  1. A home made torridal tube coil with the positive supply to the saw running though it.

  2. The Arduino senses the current draw (the saw motor initally draws 8+A@240V)

  3. The Arduino then switches a relay - which then powers the vacuum

  4. When the saw power is released the Arduino continues to power the relay for e.g. 10 seconds

  5. An overide switch would be able to power the relay without the saw being started.

Any thoughts and help would be most welcome.

As luck would have it there is a current thread on this topic here.

It covers all of your requirements except #5.

Many thanks Wildbill.
