thanks Mike, so I may as well just buy some of those other FET's and that would allow me to control the + of the LED's with a 5v logic?
When looking at the datasheets, what indicates that it's a logic level FET?
EDIT: I ended up ordering some RFP12N10L. Datasheet says logic level, hopefully these will let me use the positive to control brightness.
