Velostat and python

Hello All,

Please forgive me if the question seems too simple/idiotic. I am extremely new to Arduino/Raspberry etc but I do have some nice experience with python/Computers. I am supposed to be working on a robotics project, however, I don't have most of the components so right now I am eyeballing the whole thing and writing the code on my laptop with python. So can anyone help me with a small sample code for Velostat in python? and also how the how the Velostat outputs resistance?

Thanks and Best Regards,
N7Fenrir

I suggest to wait until you get your Arduino, your sample of velostat (and make a sensor out of it), and another resistor to make a voltage divider.

While you are waiting, look up how to program the Arduino to read the voltage output by the divider, calculate the resistance of the velostat sensor and send the result to the laptop.

You might start with an Arduino program taken from one of the many on-line examples to read an LDR (light dependent resistor). Hint: google "arduino ldr" but avoid Instructables, as most of them are crap.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.

Have you googled? velostat arduino

There are suppliers out there that provide excellent tutorials and examples for this product.

Tom....

This is not a Python programming forum

This forum is for programming Arduinos and they cannot be programmed in Python, just C/C++

...R

Velostat(tm) acts as a variable resistor, much like a LDR (Light Dependent Resistor). The circuits and coding will be very similar.
