Vin

I assume that the Vin on the power block of the Arduino Diecimila is rated for the full voltage range? (6 - 20 VCD). Or am I limited to the 'plug' if I want to supply 12 volts?

I have been (breadboarding) sending 12V to the Vin pin. I anticipate continuing to use the Vin pin after getting everything off of breadboard. No problems thus far (that I am aware of =)

It depends on two things.

  1. The voltage rating on the input capacitors (it doesn't say on the schematic).
  2. The power you are drawing through the regulator. With 20V input you burn that power in the regulator and it gets hot. It's OK for just the board but if you are powering any substantial load (LEDs motors and so on) you might find it gets too hot.
