VL53LOX ToF Sensor Usage

So i am design a wheeled autonomous mapping robot and at this time planning to use the VL53LOX ToF Sensor. My current plan is to have a number of these (probably 3, 4 or 5) sensors mount on the front of the robot in an arch in order to have a wide field of obstacle view. Then when a sensor detects an object the robot will stop and rotate to find the edge of the obstacle using a Gyro to monitor the scan angle. So my question has anyone had experience of the sensors (is my plan doomed) and what height have you tested these sensor at with respect to ground.
