Voice changer without shield?

Hi, total n00b here.

I have an arduino leonardo available for this project, which would be a voice changer for a dalek costume. I see it's been done before with arduino shields, and I see the audio library here on the site.. I haven't looked at arduino in ages and while my programming is probably pretty good still, the hardware side would definitely be amateur at best.

Any ideas/suggestions/code/schematics which will work with Leonardo would be most appreciated.

You need some extra components but it doesn't have to be on a shield.
A Dalek sound is a simple Ring modulator with an oscillator and is best done with a simple analogue circuit. But you can do some things on an Arduino see here:-
