with all the rain and warm temps, i thought i would check my basement workshop. Glad i did! the water is starting to creep across the floor! my server rack has a max of maybe 1.5 - 2 inches clearance, before the water gets into places i don't want it. i put a camera (water-resistant) on the situation though, so i can keep an eye on the water creeping.
I hate having my electronics shop and server rack down in the basement, but it is where it is, for now. when i can afford my own place, i hope that changes things.
i suppose i could rig up my alarm pager to alert of water level. it can't be too hard to make a water sensor. mount it a bit below the server rack max level.

Hmm, everything on the web shows the use of an Op-Amp to boost the signal. i may try just sticking the pager wires right in the water. it has both negative and positive triggers. the negative trigger should be the best.
Use a piece of Veroboard (stripboard) with the strips vertical. Connect alternate strips to one wire and the other alternate strips to the other wire. A larger surface area (many strips) will make your detector more accurate.
If you have some space between your rack and the ceiling, consider getting a few bricks and raise the rack. That would buy you a few more inches next time.
