Waterproof Ultrasonic sensor and HC-SR04 with waterproof transducers

Hi everyone,

I am looking for a budget waterproof ultrasonic sensor to use a in a project of mine, without much luck.
I think i will try the JSN-SR04T next but i heard mixed feedback.

I was thinking about using my HC-SR04 and replace the transducers it comes with, for some similar waterproof ones that I bought (same 40kHz), however for some reason, it doesn't work with the transducers I bought, but works fine with its own.

Wouldn't it matter what transducers are on board, if they have the same specs / frequency?

Anyone have ever tried this?

Would appreciate if others would share their knowledge in this matter.

by waterproof do you mean you need the sensor submerged?
or just need it to operate in humid environment?

I use the regular cheapo SR04 in a very humid environment just fine to measure water level.

I mean that it needs to be outdoor in a container and may get condensation and perhaps even rain drops on the transducers. I wondered about how to get waterproof transducers to work with such (or similar) sensors..

you can coat the board with hot glue or similar stuff.
have you actually experienced a sensor damaged/stopped working due to condensation/raindrops?

Hey dough,

The board does not worry me, since it is going to be:

  1. In a custom made enclosure
  2. I use conformal coating on all my electronics

What worries me are the transducers, since you cannot conformal coat the transducers inside or the sound won't propagate, and i believe the standard transducers are definitely not waterproof.

exactly why I ask if you have actually experienced the sensor to get damaged with the transducers exposed. I think it will be just fine. My setup is similar, except it is exposed to saltwater. I figure I bought a few of those and replace them as they stop working, but so far, the one I installed there has been working for over a year, maybe even more than 2.

Has anyone actually tried submerging the JSN-SR04T?? I'd need to know whether it is possible...

Would a waterproof ultrasonic parking sensor (ebay) work.
