Web browser preference

Just wondering for this forum

NCSA Mosaic :stuck_out_tongue:

FireFox (with No Script and LastPass. (I feel naked without them. (I like parentheses.)))

Generally IE8, chrome for a couple of google related databases that I didn't set up.

Incredible — you forgot Safari! Or is that what you condescendingly meant by “other”?

Lynx is better (or Links, if you need frames)...

/bah - who need the web, I'm going back to gopherspace... XD

[/quote]I think that can happily come under other :stuck_out_tongue:

I have both firefox and safari on the dock on my mac. I prefer Safari. It seems to rum faster.

Chrome. FF is too bloaty and I never used any of the plug-ins to make it worthwhile.

I have to use ie7 at work. I have to say, it's brilliant when it comes to doing stuff on the intranet. Cross browser compatibility isn't something I have to worry about!

Lynx.

(Edit: cr0sh beat me to it. ;))

FWIW I ran out of poll options.

Regardless of starting time, I dont like chrome for two reasons:
A. I need menu bars. It looks ugly without them
B. I have a strong distrust of Google.

I'm sort of between browsers atm :stuck_out_tongue:

But, I have to use something, so in the meantime I continue use what I have used for years, which is mostly Opera. But I'm growing more and more displeased with it, feeling it is getting cluttered and cumbersome, and bloated (trying to be everything).

Btw it seems like every good software follows this route: from useful little fast problemsolvers, to an overbloated mess of options and extra software installed with it that does everything you dont need it to and then some.

Ok /rant off :stuck_out_tongue:

All in all I would say it's not really bad. And unfortunately I have to have mouse gestures now :stuck_out_tongue: Even though its just a couple of them, but Opera managed to mess that up imho, and getting to any settings about those seems... hopeless.

I also have Chromium (in Ubuntu, and Chrome on Windows) too, but don't really use those much. Maybe Firefox, I started to use that a bit on another computer. Unfortunately, that one just broke down (with bookmarks and all, not too critical though).

I thoroughly love chome's lack of menu bars, it really suits my browsing style.

Distrusting google is like distrusting oxygen. You're right to have your suspicions but you can't really avoid it.

Haha

I use Pale Moon often on my laptop (Windows optimised version of firefox (about 25% faster)) because I like it. I also use SRWare Iron (soon to be XDark Chrome) which is a version of chrome which doesn't send all your browsing info to google. I use Firefox on my main box as I haven't changed it yet.

I'm undecided about whether I like chrome and its simplicity.

At home it's Safari exclusively. It's a great browser, no problems with it at all (except when webdesigners fail and still have IE6 websites).
At work I use Internet Explorer for most stuff since a lot of the web apps are IE only.
Next to that I have Chrome since it is a lot faster for a certain app we use, but not everything works with Chrome so I have to switch.

I used to be FF all the way, but when I get my Mac (hurray!) and tried Safari and FF next to eachother, Safari blew it out of the water.

I'd use chrome except for the fact I'm a web developer and firefox has some great developer tools I use. I'me sure chrome has a few but I just haven't looked into it.

I actually have 4browsers installed and live disks for 3 or 4 versions of linux.

Chrome has quite good web dev tools too, I’ve found. Have a look under ‘view’ -> ‘developer’. It might not mean goodbye to firebug, but it’s a pretty good alternative toolset.

I use Chrome on my proper MacBook (even though I’m convinced it is increasing taking over OS X, in a sort of ChromeOS by stealth kind of Trojan Horse of Troy ploy). I tend not to use Chrome on this Hackintosh Netbook as on it, Chrome tends to beachball upon logins — which is exactly when I expect to go full speed ahead. (I’m using it now to know what the menu I refer to is properly called.)

I use Firebug and Web Developer toolbar on Firefox - might look for chrome alternatives but as I said before, like a lot of people, you learn to love what you use.

The one's in bold I use on pretty much a daily basis.

The one's in red are particularly good at figuring out really strange bugs.

Auto Copy
Cookie Monster
DOM Inspector
FireBug
IE View
Last Pass
Link Checker
Live HTTP headers
Measure It
No Script
Remove Cookies for Site

I will have to check out the developer tools in Chrome, just have never gotten around to it.
