Web Editor - Sorry, you have reached the maximum number of compilations per day

Hi
Been using Arduino IDE for years, but now trying the Web Editor. But after a few days I started getting the message "Sorry, you have reached the maximum number of compilations per day", even at start of day with the first attempt.
What is this limit, and how do I get round this problem?

I know there is an answer to this from the early days of editor but I cannot put my finger on it right now.

It might also help to clear your browser / computer cache (no guarantee) before and long sessions in CREATE.

Thanks. Clearing the cache seems to have done the job.

I use CCLEANER on a very regular basis.

It is my GOTO free software for staying on top of things before I go off the deep end and pull any remaining hair out.

Not good after all - it still happens all the time. Tried CCleaner as well, but no better.

Please help!

If you reached the ACTUAL limit then thats it I am afraid.
At that point you might want to archive and then delete some back to your computer to make room for more.

I dont consider it an ideal limit and would on a personal note like to see it increased.

This is about the compilations limit, not the sketchbook limit, so deleting sketches won't help. I can understand why a limit is necessary for a free service but it would be very frustrating to get shut down from continued work by this when you're in the middle of a big project. I suppose the solution is to offer a paid plan option that doesn't have limits, or has greatly increased limits.

I do think these limits should be clearly documented: The sketchbook limit, the compilations limit, and how the daily window for the compilations limit works (is it a rolling window or a hard reset? If a hard reset, based on which timezone?).

The only limit I know for sure is the two that concern storage space and the sketch limit.

Both are clearly mentioned if you open the web editor and click PREFERENCES and look at the top of the centre panel.
Further usage stats are then available if you click MORE INFO.

Libraries obviously can chew up that space quickly if you are not careful and lead to issues as well.

Thanks for the replies, but I have just started with the web editor, having used the IDE before. I imported about 100 sketches (1% of space used), and have managed about 20 compilations over a couple of weeks, so I don't think I am taxing the system too much or overstaying my (free) welcome.
The message occurs every time I start the web editor, save a sketch as a new name, and try to verify/save it even before making any changes. It's not at the end of a long session - this is the first compilation of the day.
I've created a new account, so I'll see if that's any better

:frowning: No good. With new account I verified a couple of sketches OK, then tried to "save as" something new. First time I tried to verify the new sketch (identical to old except for the name), I got the same "max compilations" message.

There are two limits related to the sketchbook. One is space (which you seem to be nowhere near exceeding), but the other is number of sketches. The maximum number of sketches allowed is 100 so you could be hitting that limit. However, you should get a different error message if you exceeded the maximum sketch count.

Did you import the ~100 sketches to the new account?

What's the new username you are using?

Also, could you provide us with a screenshot? It may give us a clue of what's happening.

New username is bk4003. I imported the same sketches, and got the same error after "Save as...". image attached.

But I tried a different approach - copied the sketch (Ctrl-C) and pasted (Ctrl-V) into a New sketch, and that seems to work OK - verifies and uploads as expected, even after some editing.

So maybe the problem is really with the "Save as..." function. I've just repeated it and confirmed that it failed again. Compilation of other exisiting sketches works OK

WedEditor error.doc (84.5 KB)

Use of a .doc file is very unhelpful. Images should always be posted in .png or .jpg form. Use .png for graphics and .jpg for pictures.

@bob4003 the issue seems to be that you are exceeding the 100 sketches limit. The error message is misleading and we'll deploy an improvement by tomorrow

Re: "Web Editor - Sorry, you have reached the maximum number of compilations per day"

First off WHY is there a compilation limit for a PAID SUBSCRIPTION? This is just ridiculous.
Second, it is not anywhere close to the advertised 1000 compilations per day.
Third, it cost my robotics team a possible win on the day of the competition.

I had a group of students using Chromebooks for a recent robotics competition. Each student was a member of our robotics club under our paid subscription plan of 21 memebers. We have paid each month now for over 8 months straight.

We have the account solely for educational means. It is utterly ridiculous to think we are paying for your service only to have this happen on the day of the competition. I believe this is a huge mistake on your company's part. This happened with two seperate Chromebooks on two separate accounts on this day so I know it is not on our end. I also know that these students didn't upload more than 1000 times at that point in the day. You need to fix this issue and possibly offer us a refund or something else.
Incidents like this should not happen for paying customers. I expect answers soon or we will be cancelling our service and go back to using the standalone version that doens't require payment of any kind. I will also be sending out notice to others in our school board about your glitchy software we used unless we hear back.

Regards,
Upset PAYING customer

It is a 1000 compilations per day limit that you advertise NOT 100. Please ensure you fix this bug!!! I have a screenshot of your webspage advertising 1000 compilations per day.

I am having a similar issue. When I click "Verify", an orange message bar appears below the code and says "Sorry, you have reached the maximum number of compliations per day."

I know this can't be the case because I'm fairly new to Arduino and I just haven't used it enough to hit any limits. I only have 3 sketches. I haven't used any Arduino software either desktop or web based in several months until today. I started tinkering again today, and started getting this message after verifying my code about 10 times in an hour.
Is there really a limit to how many times you can compile in a day? If so, what is the limit?

See screenshot attached of the error and note that I only have 3 sketches.
FYI, you might notice that my arduino was not plugged in at the time of the screenshot, but it was plugged in and had been working fine - I unplugged later.

I am using the Arduino Create Web Editor. I'm not sure if this issue occurs on the desktop IDE. I might try, but am hoping to continue using the web editor.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

In addition to the compilation limit, there is also a limit of 100 sketches you can have saved in the cloud sketchbook. If you read that reply carefully, you'll see that @smellai was talking about a 100 sketch limit, not a 100 compilation limit. At the time of that reply, 6 months ago, it seems the error message for exceeding the 100 sketch limit was accidentally using the one for the 1000 compilation limit. I have just checked the error message for exceeding 100 sketches and it is now correct, so that bug has been fixed.

You can see how many of the 100 sketches you have in the Preferences tab.
