I dont see a place for people to sell arduino stuff. or a place for users to recommend arduino items.
a thread for the users to post items they have for sale or post for items they want to buy.
a thread for users to post on arduino items they would recommend. an lcd they really liked and why they like it better than others.

I don't think it would be helpful to lump everything into one thread.
As for recommendations, I guess the appropriate forum section would depend on the item and whether the recommendation is actually an advertisement. There actually is a thread somewhat along those lines here:

It's difficult to imagine how the list could stay current. Most Posts will have vanished to page 7 or higher after a few days.
