We are trying to measure weight of smt with arduino, we have found the load cell could work but we don’t understand the calibration process (first of all if it’s mandatory or not, and what’s use to).
A load cell changes the resistance depending on the force applied. So you measure the change of that resistance or better the voltage in a voltage divider built by the load cell and a reference resistor. As the force applied to the load cell does not only depend on the weight of the object but also on the physical construction of your scale the translation from measured value to weight has to be found out by testing the scale with known weights. That’s called calibration.
Do you have any other idea for measuring weight?
Piezo elements and pressure sensors come to mind but you should define what that “something” is that you’re trying to measure.
Do you have an exemple code for the load cell or know how to use it?
You know how Google is used, don’t you? There are dozens of tutorials available.
