So, been using Wemos D1 Minis for a while using core 2.6.3 and no issue. Recently got a new style Wemos D1 mini 4.0.0 and had troubles getting the Lolin 2.4 TFT shield working with it.
I confirmed the blink sketch works, as do simple sketches needing no libraries.
So, went down the rabbit hole of updating Arduino IDE board manager to latest 3.0.2. Now some libraries don't seem to work, had to delete older SPI library, have multiple libraries I really need to clean up etc.. a real mess of my own causing no doubt.
So I was hoping someone could advise:
Can I use core 3.0.2 with ESP8266 Wemos D1 minis, no known issues?
Is it likely libraries will be out of date?
I may just go nuclear and delete everything and start again.....keeping a backup just in case.
The board manager installs the newer core and does not remove the older one, which tends to cause some issues. Best practice is to first remove the core before installing a newer version.
I have only encountered warnings that SPIFFS is deprecated and i should switch to littleFS. Mind you i actually always switch back to ancient 2.4.2 since that works for the ESP-01s units i use a lot and has all functionality i use for the sketches i write. I should probably update, but when 2.5.x came out the support for ESP8285 stopped working, (fixed in 3.0.x for sure though, probably before already) hence my back-dated-ness.
i would make sure you remove all installed cores and just re-install those, to prevent the IDE finding multiple core-libraries.
That is rather odd though, because there should not be much difference between the boards SDK wise.
Yes it was weird, I just removed a v3.1.0 wemos, swapped in a 4.0.0 and flashed, nothing worked. It is quite possible I have caused a spiralling situation by trying too many solutions.
I did not know that, thank you. I will look at removing all cores and reinstall only the one and see how it goes.
Hmm, so I just reinstalled from fresh to keep things simpler for me. Strange results:
Wemos Mini D1 v3.1.0 - all working fine Wemos Mini D1 4.0.0 - blink sketch works, as does a buzzer connected to D5 digital out. But anything needed SPI/I2C does not work. I2C scanner shows no devices, when I have a confirmed working DHT sensor attached.
